UPVC windows and doors have minimum requirements for maintenance. We offer several simple procedures how to maintain their long-term performance and permanent good look.

Ventilation

SULKO windows are characterized by high tightness. Humidity in your apartment (from cooking, bathing, as well as breathing and growing flowers) has no way to escape and condenses on the glass especially if not ventilated in time. Warm room air with high humidity needs to be led off with a short ventilation for approx. 2-3 minutes while the heating should be turned off. Short ventilation should be performed 2-5 times a day, according to the use of residential space. During short ventilation the room is cooled down slightly so that heating of the fresh air requires only a small amount of energy. To prevent condensation on the glass, the apartment should be ventilated in order that the humidity would not exceed 50 %.

  • If possible, avoid drying clothes inside and when cooking, use the fume hood and keep the doors to other rooms closed
  • When taking bath or shower, keep the door closed and then ventilate the bathroom using a window or a fan
  • Plants in the apartment can also be a source of humidity, 'forest climate' in the living room is not being beneficial
  • Heaters should be allocated under the windows so that cold windows are 'washed' with warm air via natural circulation
  • Internal blinds placed on the glass limit air circulation along the glazing and facilitate so-called cold pockets where condensation may occur, therefore we recommend to keep the blinds in the top position in cold days
  • Flowers on the window sill and heavy curtains may also limit the access of warm air to the glass
  • Wide window sills should be provided with vents to enable air circulation

  • Cleaning

Plastic parts of windows and doors are easily cleaned and maintained due to their smooth surface. Stains caused by dust or rain can be easily removed using common detergents and hot water. Detergents containing sand, abrasive and rough detergents are not allowed as they may roughen the surface area. Stains from installation, maintenance or manipulation (e.g. fittings grease) can be removed using common detergents. Gasoline or nitro solvents should not be used for cleaning the plastic To clean decorative stained glass in front door panes, use only warm water without detergents.

To clean insulated glass, common detergents can be used. Fingerprints and greasy stains can be removed with detergents. Mortar, cement, lime, rust, etc. should not be left to dry on the surface - remove the stains as soon as they occur using a large amount of water. Do not use tools with hard and sharp edges or abrasive detergents, acids, fluorine or other alkalis. Irreversible damage to the glass can be caused by flying particles when grinding or scales when welding etc. Please consult any other cleaning related issues with our service department personnel.

    Maintenance

To maintain performance and a long-term utility value of the windows and doors, the following procedures should be conducted once a year:

  • Fittings should be checked for operation and serviceability. Any safety fittings should be periodically checked for wear. All moving parts of fittings including front door hinges needs to be lubricated with a drop of Teflon oil. Wipe off any excess oil with and absorbent cloth immediately. The same instructions apply to the fittings of opening, tilting and double-casement tilt & turn and opening windows. Avoid using colour oil for lubrication to prevent stains on the plastic.
  • Check the seals, replace damaged parts if necessary (the seal and its installation can be ordered via our service form .
  • Check the drainage openings at the lower part of the frame (when blocked, the window could leak). If required, clean the openings, preferably using a vacuum cleaner.
  • Check the surface of UPVC profiles and clean if necessary. Friction or polishing the plastic can cause electrostatic charge and attract dust. Remove it by washing the UPVC profile with a soap which should be let dry on the surface.
